Did you get or will you be giving a “gift card” this Christmas season? Well the new law states that even if you stuck an old one in the drawer it may be good for 5 years! The new law also states that the store cannot charge an “inactivity fee” for at least 12 months. So use them if you get them, then its no problem! Should I take advantage of those store credit card offers for a discount on a purchase? Hey we all get these, your standing in line and they offer you a discount on your purchase if you qualify for an in-store credit card. Our recommendation is if you have 2 or 3 already that is all you need to keep you scores up! All you really need is one or two revolving accounts reporting on time payments to have great scores. If you have great scores and just want the discount on the purchase that is entirely up to you. If a collection is removed from my credit report and it still has a balance, do I still owe it? This is a great question! Items that are verified and are yours can be removed if they are not being reported accurately. But this does NOT remove the legal liability that you still owe the debt! So the collection agency can still call you and try to collect the debt even though its been removed from your report. You may also want to check the SOL or statue of limitations for the debt in your state. If you have any questions about it just send us an email at info@usccra.com.
